Hello! I’m Jessica of Spalted Home and I’d love to tell you a bit more about me and how these mini cactus kits came to be!
I started my first official business in 2011 selling jewelry. In 2015 I taught myself how to carve spoons and opened Spalted Home.
In 2017 I had my daughter and stopped all of my creative work. I didn’t really miss it until she was about 6 months old. I could feel my creative energy returning but also knew I didn’t want to continue with the jewelry or spoons.
At that same time I was putting together a gift for a friend with a small vase and a cactus pup. I figured she would need soil and instructions to plant it. As I was looking at all of the components I had a light bulb moment and knew I wanted to create the mini cactus kit! It contained everything people love-a plant, tiny things, and it was an experience.
I made a huge list of all the the things that I needed to figure out or source and spent the next few months ticking them off my list in the bits of time I had while my daughter was sleeping.
In the summer of 2018 the cactus kit was finally complete and ready to send out in to the world! These kits are all about sharing the delight of tiny things and the joy they can bring into our everyday lives.
Since then I’ve added an itty bitty mini cactus kit and pins to the mix. I have also had the pleasure of working on collaborations with other women artists. It’s been such a pleasure being able to create this for you!
Thank you for being here and I hope these mini kits will bring a smile to your face.
P.S. Gifting these will be sure to leave you with the title of "Best Gift Giver"-you've been warned...
