PORTOLANO

Mount Vernon, NYBrand · Clothing

The history of Portolano began in Napoli, Italy, in 1895, when Fortunato Portolano started manufacturing gloves. The Company was a pioneer in the export of Italian Gloves. As early as 1911, Portolano was selling leather gloves to the United States and the British Colonies. The 2nd generation of gloves producers were six Portolano brothers, one of whom, Vittorio, opened his own factory in 1933. Thanks to the technology, quality and styling developed by the family, the Portolano brand was established as a leading name in the world of gloves manufacturing during the two World Wars. In 1969, Vittorio's sons, Aldo and Ivo, established the present company and independent venture. Seeking to explore new market opportunities, the two brothers opened Portolano Products Inc. in New York in 1985. Today, the 4th Portolano generation, Aldo's son and daughters Vittorio, Francesca, Federica and Fabiana, are proud of running Portolano Products, offering a multi product line under the family brand and also working with different private labels of various leather and knitted products which bear the Portolano standard of excellence.
