LeadHead Glass

Brand · Glassware

LeadHead Glass was founded in 2013 by stained glass artisans Chad Ackley and Derek Smiertka to create heirloom-quality terrariums and custom glass projects. Using traditional stained-glass techniques developed in the 1880s, each piece is carefully handcrafted into a unique design. Our terrariums are inspired by 19th-century Wardian cases, the original terrariums invented by Nathanial Bagshaw Ward. These cases were once used to transport exotic plants across the globe by ship and to adorn Victorian homes. Terrariums offer the perfect environment for growing a miniature garden and require less watering than typical houseplants. As they soak up sunlight during the day, condensation forms on the glass, returning to the soil when the glass cools in the evening. We’re always adding new designs and styles to our collection, and we love collaborating with customers on custom stained glass projects.
