Enchanted Lion Books is an independent book publisher currently based in Lower East Side, New York. We live with the books we publish long before they go to press, and we commit to them because they are beautiful and lively, thoughtful and full of feeling. Many evince a fierce belief in the imagination, paying as much attention to our inner lives as to the world around us. Our books offer complex visual and written narratives that put their lens onto the intrinsic beauty and mystery of the world, but also onto the strangeness and the weirdness inherent in life. In addition to our original titles, we publish books in translation and reissues of books from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, reaching across time to find new authors and artists and old treasures to share with a new generation of readers. We have published books from authors and illustrators near and far, from right here in the United States, to Chile, Japan, Norway and France. With Enchanted Lion’s exciting new imprint, Unruly, we’re creating category-defying picture books for grown-ups and teens. These books invite older readers to engage with stories that expand the definition of a “picture book” and challenge the idea that they are made only for children. From our original titles, to our books in translations, to our reissues, we seek to bring together well-told stories and illustrations to inspire curiosity, awareness, and wonder, in children and adults alike.
