A linoleum printmaker draws original sketches onto linoleum blocks, carves the illustrations in relief with woodcarving tools, rolls ink onto the cut lino, and prints the blocks onto paper or cloth ... all by hand.
I am a naturalist, inspired by the woods, waters and wildlife of the Midwest. I print in limited, numbered editions, and I have won multiple awards for my work. I am passionate about offering affordable prints and motivating buyers to collect original art from living artists.
I came into printmaking in 2018 via autodidactic learning and continue to grow in this way. I take classes and meet regularly with others in the printmaking community as a way to hone my processes. My partner, an architect of 30+ years, has classical art training and serves effectively as my critic.
Printmaking is a second career for me after 22 years in education. I believe in sharing as much as possible and helping artists develop profitability as professionals. I have a growing community of newly fledged artists who see me as a mentor, and this is a role I cherish.
I have studios in Royal Oak and Presque Isle, Michigan. My brick-and-mortar, Forested in Ferndale's Rust Belt Market, is my retail printshop that includes work from 30+ additional artists who create nature-inspired, slow-made work. Along with choosing goods for my store, I show my work in more than 20 art festivals every year.
My partner and I are fortunate to own an authentic Midcentury Modern home that we enjoy curating, and we have a small cottage in a northern Michigan forest. I feel gratitude for every day I can practice my art. But above all, I am most at peace when walking in the wild or paddling a kayak.
