Artist Statement
I come from generations of craftspeople and artists— sculptors, painters, woodworkers and tailors. I was raised by people who live and breathe their belief in the value and virtue of making things by hand. This act itself forges a profound connection between the maker and the community who supports the work.
This connection is especially meaningful with jewelry. The ceremony of creating is intrinsically tied to the rituals of how these pieces are carried from one generation to the next: rings that symbolize the intention and promise of a new life together, a child's first earrings marking a step toward becoming part of the larger world, or a memorial pendant to remember someone who is gone.
I find inspiration in the rich history of jewelry craftsmanship across different cultures and traditions, particularly from eras before mass production. I'm especially drawn to stylistic intersections, like Mughal or Romani jewelry that influenced Victorian design. My creative process is fueled by vintage fashion, the complexity of the natural world, and the beauty of diverse women.
My greatest passion lies in antique diamonds and gemstones cut more than 100 years ago, hand-engraved pieces, and designs that demonstrate meticulous attention to detail. Now, with my jewelry company over 30 years old, I find myself looking both forward and back, taking stock of our many accomplishments. We have been fortunate to be part of so much love and happiness over the decades.
